Quintilian School is committed to our student’s understanding of sustainability and water management practices. We believe that through education and modelling, we can make a difference and instil a strong and long-lasting respect for the environment in our students and the wider Quintilian community.
Waste-wise strategies are taught to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 6 through mini waste-wise workshops, specific lessons and incursions. Quintilian also participates in the Containers for Change program, encouraging students and families to recycle their drink containers. All funds raised from this initiative go back into the school’s STEM and sustainability projects.
Our chickens roam freely about our organic vegetable gardens, and they are cared for by our children.
In addition to the educational value, the gardens are used to demonstrate the connection between the recycling of waste, the chickens, and the growing of vegetables.
Quintilian is an accredited “Water Wise School.” We educate and teach strategies for using water sparingly whenever possible through activities and excursions such as visiting our local water treatment plant. In addition, the school has two large rainwater tanks, which collect from our central roof area.
We participate in energy competitions whenever possible, such as Synergy’s Switch Off Competition, to promote a whole school approach to conserving energy. You can learn more about our renewable energy system here.
Quintilian is a ClimateClever School. ClimateClever is an app and a platform that helps us record, measure, and reduce our carbon footprint. In addition, it helps us locate where our essential outgoings and impact areas are.
