An important part of our early curriculum at Quintilian School is learning about wildlife and the environment.

This term the Sheddies have been looking at living and non-living things. After numerous conversations and engaging with different provocations, the children were very curious about where animals live and why they live in different places.

To extend this interest further, West Oz Wildlife came to visit bringing a koala, dingo, two snakes and a bobtail lizard. The children were fascinated to learn about the different habitats and diets and how we can protect our wildlife.

West Oz Wildlife is a Perth-based family-owned business with a mission is to teach conservation through fun educational displays that do not compromise the welfare of our animals.

The West Oz education program really motivates the students to learn a range of facts about each animal they bring. They present each animal separately. Talking about each of the species of wildlife. Children will learn about the basic dietary requirements of each animal, where they live, and why they look the way they do.

During the visit the children:

  • Got to discuss the particular habits and environmental needs of each species
  • Discovered ways they could help protect habitats
  • Learnt about endangered species
  • Learnt about special features of each animal which help survival in the wild
  • Snake safety and much more!
