Quintilian’s Sea of Hands
For Reconciliation Week
9.30 and 10.30am
The Sea of Hands has been a symbol of solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, organisations and leaders on rights and reconciliation issues since 1997. Planting a Sea of Hands is an act of recognition- of identity, culture and history.
Quintilian’s Sea of Hands
Between now and next Friday, can you please ask each child in your class to trace around their hand on either black, yellow, red, blue or white card. They will then need to write their name and year level on the back and chose a word that resonates with them in relation to reconciliation (which will be written on the front). We will provide you with skewers to attach to the back of each hand.
On Friday 2nd June, between 9.30 and 10.30am, each class will come to the grass area (we will have an area marked out) and place their hands in their designated section. To preserve the hands, we will remove them before morning tea but hopefully you have room in your class to display them. It would be wonderful if you could also take photos of your class drawing their hands and placing them in the ‘sea.’
